Google Gadgets

I finally figured out the method to Google Gadget madness. Once I was able to get some code working I quickly turned 5 of my preexisting PHP MySQL web apps into Google Gadgets. All in 1 days times! While they all work as intended they are far from being done. I have tons of ideas on how to improve them.

Last year I made a Urban Dictionary Slang mIRC script where you can query UrbanDictionary.com to get either the Word Of The Day, a Random result, words Nearby your chosen word or the Slang word of your choice. Now I have ported over several of these scripts to run in a Gadget. I'll add the rest as soon I can.

Word Of The Day Gadget

This Gadget grabs today's Word OF The Day from UrbanDictionary.com . AS the name implies this content gets updated once per day Usually they change it around midnight Pacfic time. I have noticed in recent months that the WOD they pick are usually not too bad. Meaning they usually arn't curse words or other terms more likely to possibly offend someone. But since this is UD we are talking about you never know whats gonna popup that day.

Update - For about 3 weeks now UD hasn't changed the WOD. Best I can tell this is a problem on UD's end of things. This gadget worked perfectly then just stopped updating. Same goes for the WOD tab in my tab gadget.

Curse Word Gadget

For years I have been #1 on Google for various keyword variations of "List Of Curse Words". So this was quickly turned into a Gadget Since this is my web site and thus my database of information this makes it very easy for me to experiment beause I have full access to the web site, the PHP and MySQL programming and the underlying database. So expect to see me experimenting ALOT with this gadget. Don't be suprised if one day you notice new things added to this Gadget while its live. I have many ideas and this gadget is my sandbox for these ideas. Don't worry I won't do anything to radicle with it, mostly I want to add new features. Like for instance I am considering making it so any Gadget user can add new Curse Words from the gadget, look up all the Curse words that bgin with "X" letter. For now you can view the last 5 entries and the number of votes they have received. You can also vote from within the Gadget which adds a nice aspect of interactivity to my Gadget. As my Gadget programming skills progress I will add more of this type of interactivty to all of my Gadgets as it makes sense. I know very well users like interacting with web apps and I plan to please them in this regard. :) Vote and add comments
